Project Information

Background

The purpose of this project is to rehabilitate the pavement surface of Route 29, from Old River Road to Alexauken Creek Road, to improve the service life of the roadway. This section of Route 29 has been identified by the Pavement Management System (PMS) as being a priority due to the poor pavement condition, ride quality, drainage, and overall safety.

The Proposed Project

The Route 29, Old River Road to Alexauken Creek Road Resurfacing Project will include resurfacing the roadway within the project limits, resetting or repairing pedestrian related features to meet current ADA standards, upgrading three signalized intersections to meet current standards, and replacing substandard guide rail as feasible.

Traffic Impacts / Mitigation Strategies

In order to minimize construction impacts on the roadway and motoring public, the resurfacing will be completed using standard single lane closures, with most of the work to be completed at nighttime. It is not anticipated that any detours will be required.

Environmental Impacts

The proposed improvements are not anticipated to have any environmental impacts on the surrounding areas.

Historic and Cultural Resources

NJDOT will follow all state and federal regulations for the protection of any historic resources located within the project limits. This may include historic resources which are listed in, or eligible for listing in, the National Register of Historic Places.

If you would like more detailed information on this process, known as the Section 106 process, please refer to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation’s A Citizen’s Guide to Section 106 Review, available online here.

NJDOT is required to solicit public input to assist in carrying out the Section 106 process. Historic preservation organizations, historical societies, and similar groups, or individuals with information about cultural resources (archaeological or architectural) in the project area are encouraged to attend the PIC or submit comments via Patience Sengbey (NJDOT), contact information provided below.
